In eastern DRC, floods and landslides often turn into disasters largely because of where conflict has pushed people to live. Decades of insecurity have displaced people towards areas that depend on resource-intensive livelihoods (mining, extensive agriculture, charcoal), accelerating deforestation and erosion, as in Kalehe territory in South Kivu. The lesson I draw is not a linear chain from climate change to conflict, but a web of vulnerability that single-issue responses miss.

Earlier. In 2015, I supported partnerships in the Central African Republic, Chad and Niger at Secours Catholique – Caritas France, and coordinated a collective op-ed by NGOs committed to the Central African Republic (La Croix, 2015).
